Ground Control is a real time strategy game from the year 2000. It was developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Sierra Studios. The game focuses on a conflict between two factions, which are fighting for control of a planet on which a series of alien artefacts are located. In the campaign the players take the role of an officer for each faction, working to achieve their objectives through using a variety of futuristic style of troops, engaging different tactics that make use of their units, the terrain and careful planning.
Where can I get it?
As a promation for the release of Ground Control 2, the first part was released for free back in 2004 and you can still download it. If you also want to get the expansion pack you can buy the gold edition from GOG or Steam.
How to play the game in Widescreen?
For widescreen support you have to download the resolution changer. After you have unpacked the changer, you have to start the game once. Then you can switch in the changer one of the old resolutions to your desktop resolution.
Multiplayer after the shutdown of WON
The online multiplayer is after the shutdown no longer possible. But you can still play the game via a VPN client. Most players from the GCvets use for that Gameranger. The best place to get in touch with them is their Discord Server. There you can always find players and get help with the installation.
Issues with the Game
Multi-Monitor Setup
Sadly, the vanilla version of the game doesn't like a multi-monitor setup, so disable the other monitors. Until now there isn't a fix out there. Should that change this will be updated.
